Editor of NIE Enterprise Search Newsletter

Welcome to the January 2005 edition of Enterprise Search, a free subscription-based newsletter that addresses the technical obstacles that challenge webmasters, engineers, IT Professionals, and content owners as they implement search technology in corporations and organizations. Enterprise Search is published by New Idea Engineering at 10140 Hillcrest Road, Cupertino, California 95014. I've provided information on subscribing and unsubscribing at the end of this newsletter.

Poor Data Quality Gives Enterprise Search a Bad Rap - Part 2: In September 2004, NIE's Mark Bennett presented a paper to the Silicon Valley Webguild about a well-understood problem in relational technology that has, until now, been completely ignored in enterprise search: data quality. This month Mark presents Part 2 of the presentation he started in our last issue. [More].

Searching with the Ultraseek XPA Java API While most people think of Ultraseek as the browser-based search solution, Verity does provide a Java API called the XPA Java Library. This month we show you a simple Java program to search Ultraseek collections from the Windows or Unix command line. [More].

Ask Dr. Search: Using a Thesaurus as a Knowledge Base This month Dr. Search shows how to benefit from a custom thresaurus in all of your user queries, not just those that use the <THESAURUS> operator. Remember to mail your questions to Dr. Search at support@ideaeng.com. [More].
